2001 San Diego Chargers season

2001 San Diego Chargers season

Becoming the "Bills West"In January 2001, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson fired his general manager, John Butler, and his entire staff. The Chargers immediately signed Butler, and within weeks, Butler had lured several recognizable names from the 2000 Bills team: defensive end Marcellus Wiley, linebackers Sam Rogers and John Holecek, kicker Steve Christie and most notably, quarterback Doug Flutie, who Josh Freeman Jersey had been cut by the Bills in a bitter quarterback controversy involving Rob Johnson. With so many former Bills connections, the team was often referred to as the Bills West.[1][2]As such, the October 28 matchup between the Bills and Chargers in San Diego was heavily promoted as a dual grudge match, not just between Johnson and Flutie, but also between Wilson and Butler, with Wilson having been quoted as wanting to win the Chargers game more than the Super Bowl.[1] Despite the fact that the Bills were having a very bad season, and the Chargers' fortunes (at the time) had turned significantly, the game was very competitive, coming down to the final minutes play. Trailing 2420, Flutie scrambled 13 yards to put the Chargers up 2724; when kicker Jake Arians attempted a 44yard field goal to tie the game, it was blocked.[3] The Chargers, then 52, would not win another game the entire season, going 09 in the remaining nine games.NFL DraftMichael Vick was selected in the 2001 NFL Draft as the first overall pick and first African American quarterback taken number 1 in the NFL Draft. The San Diego Chargers had the number one selection spot in the draft that year but traded the rights to the first overall choice to the Atlanta Falcons a day before the draft, for which they received the Falcons' first round pick (5th overall) and third round pick in 2001 (used to draft CB Tay Cody), a second round pick in 2002 (used to draft WR Reche Caldwell) and WR/KR Tim Dwight.[4] With the Chargers' downgraded spot (the 5th overall), they selected University running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who went on to become league MVP Josh Freeman Black Jersey in 2006 .[5] Although Vick has never become league MVP, he finished second in voting in 2004.[6] In this way, Tomlinson and Vick are linked as having been "traded" for each other, although the transaction was actually the result http://www.officialbuccaneersfootball.com/Black+Josh+Freeman+Jersey of traded draft picks and contract negotiations. The Chargers' other Josh Freeman Jersey Ebay notable draft pick was Drew Brees, who would eventually win Super Bowl XLIV as a member of the Saints.

30 in overtime to ASU

30 in overtime to ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. More relaxed than he was in a jittery opening start, Missouri quarterback James Franklin baffled Arizona State with his arms and legs, even put together a big fourthquarter comeback.

He just couldn't finish it off, sending Missouri to a thud in its first big test of the season.

Franklin accounted for 428 yards and three touchdowns, but Missouri's chances ended when his final pass in overtime fell harmlessly to the ground in the 21stranked Tigers' http://www.officialbuccaneersfootball.com/Black+Gerald+Mccoy+Jersey 3730 loss to Arizona State on Friday night.

"I think this guy is going to be pretty special. I said that last week that is all I have to say," Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said. "Are you kidding me? To make some of the plays he did in that game."

Playing in front of a "Black Out" crowd at Sun Devil Stadium, Arizona State (20) built a 3016 lead behind Brock Osweiler on his way to 353 yards and three touchdowns passing, another score rushing.

The Sun Devils had trouble closing out games last season and appeared to be headed toward another disheartening loss when Missouri (11) charged back behind Franklin.

He opened the fourth quarter with a a 25yard touchdown pass to L'Damian Washington, then tied it on 3yard TD pass to Michael Egnew with 2:50 left. Franklin moved the Tigers quickly at the end of regulation to set up a field goal, but Grant Ressel's attempt from 48 yards missed wide left with 12 seconds left.

The Sun Devils opened overtime with the 11yard touchdown from Osweiler to Miles on a swing pass, then swarmed the field after Franklin's fourthdown pass fell harmlessly into the end zone, ending a backandforth game that included 23 penalties for 224 yards.

Aaron Pflugrad caught eight passes for a careerhigh 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns the second on a trickplay pass by Miles and Arizona Gerald McCoy Jersey Ebay State finished with 492 yards to beat a ranked opponent for the first time in its last 11 tries.

"That's the kind of game we couldn't win last season," Pflugrad said.

Franklin almost singlehandedly kept the Tigers in it.

A week after a nervous first start, the sophomore threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 84 yards and another score.

It just wasn't enough on a night in which Missouri had Gerald McCoy Jersey 501 total yards, Nike Gerald McCoy Jersey but converted just three of 15 thirddown chances to see its 22game winning streak in regularseason nonconference games come to an end.

"My guys battled back in a really tough environment and put ourselves in a position to win," said Pinkel, whose team lost to Iowa at Sun Devil Stadium in last year's Insight Bowl. "We were down 14 going into the 4th quarter and then we tie it up and have a chance to win at the very end. These are tough losses."

Both teams came in looking to make a statement against a bigtime program after opening against smaller schools.

Arizona State rolled over UC Davis in its opener, thanks to 262 yards and a pair of touchdowns from Osweiler, along with a stingy defense that held the FCS Aggies to minus4 yards rushing before giving up a couple of late scores.

The Tigers struggled offensively in their opening 176 win over Miami of Ohio, scoring their fewest points in an opener since 2001 as Franklin played with what he called "jittery feet." Missouri's defense made up for the offensive shortcomings, stifling the RedHawks, giving up the one score after an interception by Franklin gave them a short field.

This firstbigtest matchup had Sun Devil Stadium juiced for one of the few times in recent years, a sellout crowd the first since 2008 of 70,236 fans dressed in black to create the "Black Out." A nearby lightning storm added to the buzz, as did the celebrities in attendance: golfer Phil Mickelson, Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash, not to mention a dozen or so NFL scouts.

Osweiler was sharp from the opening drive, squeezing a 12yard touchdown pass between two defenders to Miles, who was pinballed but still held on.

Arizona State had to settle for Alex Garoutte's 47yard field goal after a fourthdown conversion was wiped out by a penalty early in the second quarter, but Osweiler answered Missouri's first touchdown with a 60yard scoring pass to Pflugrad on the next play. Missouri blocked Garoutte's extrapoint attempt.

Osweiler had the hockey assist on the back pass to Miles, who hit Pflugrad for a 35yard touchdown pass, then took it in himself for a rumbling 12yard touchdown run up the middle that put ASU up 3016. Osweiler finished 24 for 32.

"Our team is just relentless," Osweiler said. "We refuse to give up."

So did Franklin and the Tigers.

Baffling Arizona State with his arm and his legs, he had a 2yard touchdown run in the second quarter, set up three field goals by Ressel and opened the fourth quarter with a 25yard TD pass to Washington that got the Tigers within 3023 early in the fourth quarter.

Franklin followed with the 3yard touchdown pass to Egnew, tying it at 30all with 2:50 left, and had the Tigers moving again, but Ressel missed the final chance in regulation. Franklin's lastditch attempt on fourth down in overtime fell in the corner of the end zone when he receiver cut inside. He finished 26 for 42.

11 Homeland Security Spending Spree

11 Homeland Security Spending Spree

On the edge of the Nebraska sand hills is Lake McConaughy, a 22milelong reservoir that in summer becomes a magnet for Winnebagos, fishermen and kite sailors. But officials here in Keith County, population 8,370, imagined this scene: an Al Qaeda sleeper cell hitching explosives onto a ski boat and plowing into the dam at the head of the lake.

The federal Department of Homeland Security gave the county $42,000 to buy stateoftheart dive gear, including fullface masks, underwater lights and radios, and a Zodiac boat with sidescan sonar capable of mapping wide areas of the lake floor. West Virginia charging for $3,000 worth of lapel pins and billing the federal government for thousands of dollars in cellphone charges then they should be made to repay the government back.

And, of course, for every time some one does a terrorist act, America is always behind and then jumping on the bandwagon and throwing money at that particular situation to the exclusion of others.

What is needed is for world security experts to sit down and come up with all possible scenarios and produce worldwide measures that will ensure the safety of all countries.

its past time that we draw a line that realistically reflects sufficient spending for the military and the DHS and what amounts to just ridiculous spending.

Sure we want to spend everything we NEED to http://www.officialbuccaneersfootball.com/Black+Warren+Sapp+Jersey to insure the safety and security or our nation and its citizens BUT there is an enormous gap between being prepared for likely eventualities and almost every last single possible scenario. It seems that in many cases that neighboring communities and municipalities could realistically rely on 'mutual aid' with regard to some of the resources that get deployed rather than trying to fully prepare each and every municipality for numerous eventualities.

Of course the great fear that strikes directly at all politicians regardless of party is that the mere suggestion of reducing funding for DHS or the military is that any and all political opposition immediately starts screaming 'weak on terror' 'weak on defense' 'doesn't care about protecting our citizens' and all the rest of the rhetoric that goes along with these issues.

And Mitchell And Ness Warren Sapp Jersey of course if there were any kind of cuts made and then there were any kind of attack that took place anywhere, anyone who had suggested or actually made any cuts would be strung up from the nearest street lamps even of that which had been cut wouldn't have had any effect on the attack at all.

We need our defenses as any nation does, but nothing says we have to go absolutely crazy about it and spend ourselves broke.

Rural podunk towns applied for and got homeland security money after 9/11. I know, I lived in one that applied for funds and got it. I thought Warren Sapp Jersey it was ridiculous at the time and still feel that way. What they really did with that money I don't have a clue, but no terrorist in his right mind would have stayed in that town, never mind attacking it. As long as the patriot gravy train is flowing people will take advantage of it. It is shameful. Call it a need for homeland security and you had a chance at the free money.

'Tactics' regardless of their strengths always inevitably fail when they are employed under flawed 'Strategy'. As long as US foreign policy places the strategy for protecting American citizens against terrorism as secondary to that policy's primary objective of protecting the status of petrodollars as the 'World's Reserve Currency' by propping up corrupt dictatorships and monarchies which violate the human rights of their own subjects, no degree of expenditure toward tactics at home will eliminate the desires of subjugated peoples toward convincing the US citizenry that we should demand our leadership change its foreign policy as it applies to the injustice inflicted upon them.

Our nation's foreign policy turns a blind eye to Warren Sapp Throwback Jersey regimes which play by the rules of international finance yet subjugate and violate the human rights of people living within such countries which, by official decree, discriminate against gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and even genealogical lineage, yet our nation and its bankstercontrolled allies respond with great alacrity toward any country which might challenge collusionary agreements maintaining the strategy for keeping the status of petrodollars as 'The World's Reserve Currency'.

The greatest insult to our intelligence regarding such policy is the audacity of our leaders in telling us that kinetic military interventions supporting Reserve Currency Strategy are instead missions of humanitarian magnanimity when in fact the crimes against humanity the US itself inflicts are in fact exponentially worse than those of even the most trumped up of allegations against said boogiemen.

church with me, Donny?"
